The master tradesman is under close scrutiny in Germany: The German craft trades must

submit proposals for deregulating the trading regulations to Economic Affairs Minister

Wolfgang Clement by early summer 2003. This much is sure: There will be no general

abolition of the major qualification certificate (master tradesman’s examination), but the

number of exceptions for setting up a craft firm will be extended, especially for experienced

tradesmen of advanced age.
