There’s no doubt that the stone industry is continually evolving. The MIA has done a great job of monitoring the stone industry and setting forth standards to work by. One particular industry-wide standard that has been embraced is the tolerance in the variation of thickness of stone slabs. ITI Diamond Tools has developed the patent pending Thickness Corrector Tool (TC) for portable routers to improve the countertop profiling and installation process when working with natural stone.
It is well known that when working on a stone countertop project that will have joints, it is important to consider the thickness variation of those adjoining areas. The TC Tool eliminates this variation with one quick pass which ensures that you will have the same thickness along all of the adjoining pieces of the countertop. Using the TC Tool will also help increase the life and efficiency of fabricators’ edge profiling bit. By having a consistent stone slab thickness prior to profiling, your edge profiling bit will achieve maximum performance and give results of the highest craftsmanship. Usually when a stone slab is uneven and an edge profile is used, the finished countertop is left with a ripple effect that is unattractive. This means that fabricator will also have to take a step back and rework the countertop to get the proper results.
This tool was designed with stone fabricators and installers in mind, with hopes of improving the stone working process and ultimately the results achieved. Since there is so little statistical data which is applicable to the stone business, it is important to establish a close working relationship with stone fabricators to understand the market. ITI Diamond Tools is a domestic manufacturer of diamond stone tools who is working to research and progressively help advance the stone business. As a domestic manufacturer of diamond stone tools, being sure that addressing the obstacles that the end-user is facing is necessary in the process of tool development so that it’s mutually beneficial. Working directly with stone fabricators is also pertinent when testing new products. Obtaining trustworthy feedback will help to better define the needs of stone fabricators and also determine how to further establish a product line.
