Espírito Santo boasts one of Brazils biggest dimension stone reserves and is a significant supplier for the domestic and international markets. Among the 26 Brazilian stone exporting companies with turnover of more than US$ 10 million in 2007, 21 are located in Espírito Santo.
Espírito Santo is being held in Brazil’s biggest stone-producing centre.
From north to south of the state, it is estimated that there are 5.5 trillion cubic metres of dimension stones, based on statistics from National Mineral Production Department.
According to Sindirochas geologist Rubens Puppin, few places in the world possess a richness of materials like Espírito Santo and this natural wealth is not just in quantity of ornamental stones but also in the variety of coverings, claddings and decoration.
Among the 26 Brazilian stone exporting companies with turnover of more than US$ 10 million in 2007, 21 are located in Espírito Santo. Dimension stone exploitation is the state’s third biggest source of income and represents 7% of its GDP. In 2007, figures for marble and granite block exports exceeded US$ 726 million. This represents 66.4% of the total value of products exported from Brazil to countries such as the USA, Italy, China, and Canada.
